Melbourne Cricket Ground
.jpg)
If one has to be picked, the Melbourne Cricket Ground would be the iconic Australian sporting venue. The MCG, often referred to as "The G", holds the world record for the highest light towers at any sporting venue. It hosts more than 90 days of cricket and Australian Rules Football every year and was the main stadium for the 1956 Olympics. It has also seized other major events, including international rugby, football (soccer) World Cup qualifiers, and large rock concerts featuring David Bowie, Paul McCartney, U2, Madonna, The Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson, Elton John and more. When Madonna visited with her Girlie Show Tour, she humorously called it "The G Spot".
More seriously, If Australia is successful in its bid to secure the 2018 FIFA world cup it is likely that the MCG would be the venue of the final, as it has the largest capacity of any venue in Australia.

Telstra Dome
Telstra Dome was built specifically for Australian Rules football, unlike most grounds that were originally designed for cricket. It is a tour-de-force of stadium design, with computer-managed turf, retractable roof and moveable seats that allow the playing field to change from an oval for cricket and Aussie rules to a rectangle for rugby and soccer. The stadium caters for both sporting and entertainment events.
