Getting around the Sunshine Coast

The sheer size of the Sunshine Coast and lack of reliable public transport means that you will probably have to hire a car at some stage to get around.

To get an idea of distances and travel times:

From Brisbane to Caloundra: 92km - 1hr 30min
From Caloundra to Kawana: 9km - 15min
From Kawana to Mooloolaba: 8.5km - 10min
From Mooloolaba to Maroochydore: 8.5km - 5min
From Maroochydore to Noosa: 42km - 40min

From Brisbane to Noosa: 138km - 2hr 10min
From Noosa to Eumundi: 21km  20min
From Eumundi to Nambour: 8.5km - 15min
From Nambour to Buderim: 15km - 15min
From Buderim to Maroochydore: 8km - 10min

Rental cars are freely available on the Sunshine Coast, from both a variety of large well known companies, and several smaller local operators.

Most vehicles are younger than twelve months old, boasting automatic transmission and air-conditioning.

To rent a vehicle, you must be 21years or older and hold a current open driver's licence.

Parking

Inexpensive metered parking is available in busy areas such as the Caloundra and Maroochydore CBDs. Take care to purchase parking tickets, and display them clearly on the dashboard of your vehicle.

Some parking in the Maroochydore district has a time limit, rather than parking meters.  If you stay longer than the signs indicate, you may be fined.

Free parking is available in most other areas, including Noosa.
