Circular Quay

Resting on the southern edge of Sydney Cove, Circular Quay is the launching point for harbour and river ferries, the terminal for bus services to the eastern and southern suburbs and boasts a major train station.

During the working week, the quay bustles with the activity of commuters, but the atmosphere changes to fun and frivolity as it is taken over by buskers and entertainers on the weekends. Enjoy a meal at one of the restaurants or simply grab a bite to eat at one of the fast food outlets, and wander the quay, browsing the range of wares on offer by the street vendors. 

Follow the Writers Walk, an inscribed bronze pavement, which features short biographies from esteemed writers such as Miles Franklin, Patrick White, Mark Twain and feminist Germaine Greer. 

Moving towards the Opera House, you will come across the once-controversial Opera Quays development, packed with trendy bars, cafes and upmarket boutiques. 

One of the must-dos of Circular Quay is a harbour cruise. Whether you choose the basic comforts of the harbour ferry, a romantic sail aboard The Bounty, the heart pounding thrills of the Ocean Extreme jet boat or the quirky amphibious Aussie Duck, a jaunt on the harbour is essential.
