Aptly named for it’s rainbow coloured sand cliffs, Rainbow Beach is a relaxed village resting on the northern most tip of the Great Sandy National Park (Cooloola). The town overlooks a pretty beach which was home to a large sand mining industry until 1976, and looks north toward Fraser Island. The beach is home to a large propeller, a remnant from the ill-fated Cherry Venture, which now rests on Teewah Beach, to the south. There are a number of walking trails around the area, and it is well worth a visit to the coloured sand cliffs and the Carlo Sand Blow. The area is very popular for hang gliding, paragliding and fishing and a 4WD trail runs from Rainbow Beach south to Noosa, ski read more>
